Building a people mover out of a commercial vanlike the Transit Connect has it positives and negatives, which as you can imagine, have to do with the practical and styling aspects respectively. What this means is that, while Ford's new Transit Connect Wagon looks like a square-shaped commercial van with passenger windows, on the other hand, it offers plenty of interior space as well as a towing capacity of between 1,200 and 2,000 pounds (544 kg to 907 kg), depending on the model.
Revealed in the U.S. at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Transit Connect Wagon will go on sale as a 2014 model next fall in two wheelbase lengths, in five- and seven-passenger configurations, and in XL, XLT and Titanium trim grades.
Buyers will be able to choose between two four-cylinder gasoline engines, a standard 2.5-liter unit and an optional 1.6-liter EcoBoost that is estimated to deliver over 30 mpg on the highway. Both powerplants will be coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
“Transit Connect Wagon gives young families and people on the go the fun-to-drive and efficient vehicle they’ve been looking for,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s President of The Americas. “It’s an all-new, smaller seven-seater that has better mileage than larger vans and creates a segment of its own. Customers also will love the unique combination of style, adaptability and affordability this wagon brings.”
